Why did you chose an apprenticeship in Farriery?

I always wanted to work with animals, especially horses. My father and uncle are both farriers and I inspired to be like them from a young age. I was lucky enough to travel to yards with them and learn certain aspects of the craft early on.

What is it like to be a farrier apprentice in Ireland?

Tough work but rewarding, no two days are ever the same.

 Favourite part of the job?

Working with animals and traveling all around Ireland.

Least favourite?

Forge-work can be tough, as it’s very physical and requires a lot of reputation to get right.

How are you exams doing?

I got on well in all my Phase 2 assessments and I am studying hard to achieve the same results.

What do you do in your spare time?

Farming and socialising with friends.

What is your plan when you’re finished your apprenticeship.

Start my own company.
